OUR WORK PROCESS
The First Meeting
Nobody is looking for a chance to sit down with an attorney, especially one they don’t know. I understand that meeting with a personal injury attorney can be a little scary. I’ve surrounded myself with a team of good people — the kind of people I grew up with in Buffalo – and we’ll do our best to make you comfortable when we meet.
Our first meeting could take place in my Williamsville or Niagara Falls office, your home, or a local coffee shop – whichever is most comfortable for you. We’ll start by getting to know each other. I’ll be asking a lot of questions and you should too. Hiring a personal injury lawyer is an important decision, and it has to be a good fit. I want you to feel comfortable that you’re making the right choice. I don’t expect you to sign anything right away and won’t be pressuring you.
My firm’s main source of new personal injury cases is referrals from former clients. That’s because we keep the lines of communication open. We do our best to simplify the process and help you understand every step of your case. So that you know we’re working hard for you, you’ll have my cell phone number from day one. If I am unavailable, my staff can answer many of your questions.
No Fee Unless We Win Your Case
All Buffalo personal injury attorneys charge a contingent fee. That means, if you’ve sustained a serious injury, you don’t have to pay legal fees unless we are successful in resolving your case. The legal fee is a percentage of the amount recovered.
With a contingent fee, we don’t get paid if we’re not successful for you. The law allows this because most people can’t afford to pay a personal injury lawyer by an hourly rate. This allows injured people to seek fair compensation without worrying about how to pay a personal injury attorney.
For most personal injury cases, the fee is 33 1/3 percent (one-third) of the net recovery. In some cases, the law required a different arrangement — such as a sliding contingency fee. We’ll talk about the fee arrangement at the beginning of your case and make it part of our agreement.
