Sears, Kmart Recall Defective Space Heaters That Pose Fire Hazard

January 24, 2014

Dangerous products that pose a risk of causing personal injury have no place on the market and should be recalled.  Given the extremely cold winter in Buffalo this year, many people are supplementing their home heating through the use of portable electric space heaters.  As a result, everyone should be aware that Sears and Kmart have issued a recall for certain Kenmore oscillating fan heaters that were sold in the fall of 2013 because they may catch fire.

Fortunately, these heaters have not yet caused a major fire or a serious personal injury.  There have been, however, seven reported incidents of the heaters smoking or catching fire, with two such incidents leading to minor injuries.  The heaters being recalled are gray and white and bear the model number 127.90914310 on a silver sticker on the bottom of the unit.  They were sold through Sears and Kmart from September 2013 through November 2013.

If you own one of these heaters, please stop using it immediately and keep it unplugged.  According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, they may be returned to any Sears or Kmart store for a refund.  Additional information can be found at the Consumer Product Safety Commission website, here, or you may call Sears and Kmart toll free at (888) 820-3341.
